ECO-BEAUTY: Home-made Scrubs, Masks & Other Ideas

Kelsey, our aesthetician and resident pimple-popper took some time to jot ideas down on some eco-friendly at home facial masks and scrubs. Of course we all love our Eminence Organics products, but if you missed the first roll-call for orders or if you just need a project, here are some fun ideas for you!

"Hello Everyone!

I have some natural recipes for body scrubs, face scrubs and masks that you can make at home. Most of these recipes are safe on every skin type, including your kiddos! It is a fun way of including the kids but also a way to educate them on skin care and self-care. I also have a few of my favorite essential oils blends as well!

My favorite body scrub recipe is only 2-3 ingredients and you can customize it to your liking.

Body Scrub:

In a medium sized bowl add 2 cups of sugar (white or brown, whichever you prefer). Make sure there are no clumps. Add 1/2 cup of your favorite oil, such as olive oil, grape-seed or coconut oil. Mix until it is all incorporated. Then add 10-15 drops of your desired essential oil for fragrance (and obviously for aromatherapy benefits). The essential oil is optional. Make sure if you are using essential oils they are 100% pure oil. Not all are created equally and some can damage the skin.

This body scrub will slough off dead skin cells while maintaining the moisture of your skin. I recommend storing this scrub in an air tight container, such as a mason jar. You can even add a bow around the top and decorate the jar to give away as a gift! This scrub will last up to 2 months.

Now, for the Face Scrub.

In a small bowl add 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds, 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt OR whole milk, 1 tablespoon honey

(local is always best, plus you can have a teaspoon every morning of local honey to help ward off allergens!-Jenn), and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder. Mix all ingredients together until well combined.

Apply to your freshly cleansed & dampened face and scrub for 3 minutes. Then, rinse. Not only is this scrub great at exfoliating, it is extremely nourishing. It soothes and calms the skin, locks in moisture, and has antibacterial properties.

Stay tuned for at-home, eco-friendly masks for all types of skin! - Kelsey"
